The Architecture of Urban Construction

Modern Urban Construction is conceived to accommodate, support and inspire a range of human activities in response to socio-cultural, economic, political needs, and should seek to provide healthy environments in a resource-efficient manner with a deep understanding of all basic construction materials and procedures.

The course plans to educate students of basic materials like earth, masonry, wood, concrete, steel, glass and other finishing materials. Construction techniques continue to adjust to the development of new building materials, products, and standards without changing the fundamental principles that underlie building elements and the ways in which systems are constructed. The purpose here is to document and produce such an illustrated guide full of detailed drawings that focuses on principles as guideposts that will help students to analyze the criteria for selecting and using such building materials beyond their functional, physical, economic and aesthetic aspects for complex urban projects.

Students will learn to read complex design plans from the Library case-studies and then visualize and compare the same with on-site actual case studies of great urban spaces through the medium of detailed drawings and construction sketches.
Skillset: PRESENTATION DRAWINGS- PLANS, SECTIONS, DETAIL SKETCHES and 3D CONSTRUCTION MODELS with Library research.
