At the cusp of land and water

Architecture has always been instrumental in MAKING THE IMAGE OF A CITY. In most cases it has been used as a tool to RE-NEW the Image, A catalyst to bring about change. To move with the times and needs of the city and its citizen, cities have considered different approaches to bring about this RENEWAL.

The walled city of Ahmedabad is today faced with a dilemma, UNESCO has declared it as a world heritage city – a global recognition, the ashram road is under transformation as the new CBD of Ahmedabad and on the foreground is the newly formed riverfront and the Sabarmati. But the walled city is still old, broken, ignored and migrant in nature today the aspirations of the city and its citizens have changed. A much-needed make over is on the card for the walled city.

The studio attempts to design building/s that would act as a catalyst and help renew the image of the walled city. It explores the idea of what could and should be an architectural program that connects the old with the new. With the Sabarmati as the foreground, the designed building/s would aim to connect to the river – physically or notionally and respond to the ever-changing nature of the river.
