Breathing Habitats

As majority of housing segment remains completely governed by the increasing land prices, almost all residential environments result into high rise typology with limited variations and a disconnect with ground and nature.
The studio aims to bring about landscape and architecture together in a comprehensive manner that will elevate the living experience in an urban context. The studio will delve into the possibilities of availing a fair connection to the sky, sun and the green at multiple levels while imparting a sense of community to the residents.
Students will go through series of exercises in order to learn -
1. Built density management and land utilization (with model making exercises)
2. A throughout understanding of every functional component of a residential unit with respect to the right kind of natural light (direct, reflected or sky illuminated) required for each.
3. Methods of understanding and manifesting climatical data in to design decisions employing both, manual drafting and computational simulations.
4. Exploration of architectural sections for a living habitat that accommodates Sun, wind, trees and other vegetation within and around habitable spaces enabling thriving biodiversity.
