Structural Rehabilitation: Experimental and Numerical Analysis

The construction sector contributes 12% of India’s GDP with steady growth. Preservation of existing structures is necessary for sustainable growth. Therefore, repair and rehabilitation of existing structures will contribute significantly to construction sector, as in case of European countries, around 26%. The studio unit offers comprehensive and informative training program that focuses on structural failure, repair, and rehabilitation. This program is tailored to provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge regarding sustainable building techniques that are necessary for strengthening structures built with modern materials such as steel and reinforced concrete. The course will enable students to enhance their expertise in failure evaluation and subsequent repairing and rehabilitating strategies for existing structures to meet current standards and change-in-use. The studio also provides an in-depth understanding of material behaviour, failure and damage diagnosis, and structural auditing through real-life case studies. Students will have a unique opportunity to conduct non-destructive and minor-destructive tests in the laboratory and in-situ levels, which will help them gain a deeper understanding of structural properties and strengthening techniques. This practical approach ensures that students will be well-equipped with the necessary knowledge to conduct damage diagnosis and tests and offer reliable repair and strengthening solutions.
