Urban Governance and Management Studio

The studio exposed the students to the legislative and administrative civic structure and systems governing a city for efficient service delivery. The scale of exploration was a ward at the microlevel converging to the city functions. Students developed a management plan for efficient delivery of services as such as Solid Waste Management, Water Management, Street Vending and Parking Management, while understanding different facets of city governance like Municipal Finance, Citizen Participation along with Contracts and PPP. The students studied urban schemes, missions, and programs in the ecosystem of Municipal Management along with the 74th Amendment and the State Municipal Act. The teaching modules also covered decisionmaking tools like Sensitivity Analysis, Scenario Building, Balance Scorecard Analysis and GIS for managers. Students were exposed to appropriate exercises along with case city visits and case studies of progressive practices in city management. The studio was conducted with support from the Municipal Corporation chosen for the study.
