Geotechnical Investigation and Ground Improvements in Construction

This studio equipped students with the necessary knowledge and skills to assess subsurface conditions and implement effective ground improvement techniques. Exploring core principles of geotechnical investigation, including soil sampling and laboratory testing, the course covers a range of ground improvement methods, such as mechanical, chemical, and biological techniques. Through practical assignments, students will select locations in Gujarat to conduct field testing and collect soil samples, which will be analyzed in the laboratory. Students will gain insights into the soil's behavior under different loading conditions by correlating laboratory findings with field test results. Additionally, they will undertake projects to enhance soil properties using locally available admixtures tailored to applications in other construction projects. Emphasis is placed on cost estimation, quality control, and environmental considerations throughout the studio, empowering students to effectively manage geotechnical aspects of construction projects and ensure the stability and durability of structures.
