Design of Steel Structures

In today’s world, steel has become increasingly popular as a structural material due to its various advantages such as flexibility, constructability, high strength-to-weight ratio etc. The studio aims to provide students with an intensive understanding of the fundamental principles relating to the design of steel structures. It will cover design of steel members subjected to various forces such as compression, tension, bending and combined effect of such forces under various loading conditions using the latest Indian Standard for design of steel structures, IS 800-2007. It will also cover design of different types of connection details along with its impact on overall stability of the structure and feasibility of construction. As a part of the studio projects, students will be assigned with analysis and design of complex heavy duty steel structures. The output will be presented in the form of design reports and technical drawings.
