Spatial Constructs

The studio introduces students to basics of Space making. In the initial stages, students explore various characteristics of space making through systems of movement such as order, path space relationships, axis, hierarchy, rhythm, scale, sequential progressions, degree of enclosure etc.
During subsequent part of the semester, students are introduced to a design project for a pavilion which accommodates multiple programs such as primary health center, book studio, creche, café, dance studio, community kitchen, amphitheater etc. The design process guides one to evolve their individual responses to contextual natural boundaries and structures within Kamati baug such as rivers, landscapes and existing built structures such as Planetarium, Museum, Band Stand, Toy Train, Amphitheater etc.
This design exercise further attempts to weave together these individual proposals for pavilions within a spatial narrative connected through visual and physical linkages with the overall context of Kamati Baug.
The Design Fundamentals of Space making exercises conducted earlier in the semester were inspired by Space vocabulary exercises conducted by Prof. Gurdev Singh along with the studio tutors at Navrachana University
